There are so many things to consider as you scour the different online camera resources.
Let me put your mind at ease on the issue of megapixels. Although the sensor size is always one of the first things we look at when considering a new camera, whether it has 14 megapixels or 7 megapixels is not going to affect the quality of most photos you take. You can print a huge photo from a 7 megapixel photo just as you can from a 14 megapixel camera. So don't fret over a few megapixels (even though I will mention how many each camera has).

When shopping for a Digital SLR Camera people often overlook or skimp on the camera's lenses. Camera Lenses serve as the digital SLR cameras "eye," the lens determines what and how your camera will see your subject and how well that view is transmitted to the camera's sensor chip for recording. There is a lot to learn about digital slr camera lenses and this article will serve as a basic outline to understanding them. Depth of field is a photographic term that describes the area in a photograph that is in sharp focus. Although only a single plane in an image can be in true focus, various lenses and certain lens setting can create the appearance of a much wider area of focus. You can alter DOF by changing the aperture of the lens, the focal length of the lens or the distance to the subject.
A more academic approach to DOF would include discussion of things like circle of confusion and hyperfocal distance. For all practical purposes, however, you don't have to know about these advanced topics to include DOF effects in your photos.
